The 9's Met Gala Style Slayers
So maybe you heard that the 2018 MET GALA happened on Monday of this week...officially it’s a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
Unofficially, it's all of the high profile celebrity A-Lister's excuse for going ALL OUT to a really good theme party. The theme this year was in honor of the new costume exhibit that will feature over 200 costume pieces inspired by Catholicism. Fifty of which are on loan from the Vatican itself. And several other pieces being featured are designs by CHANEL, DIOR, and VERSACE to name a few you might recognize.
The night's theme? Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
So, as you might suspect, there's been some flack regarding some of the costume designs- maybe a few were taken too far, arguably brinking on sacrilege (oh hey Madonna...)
BUT that's neither here nor there for us at The 9's because we prefer classy red carpet looks that are convertible to real life- theme parties aside. Obviously, real life doesn't very often entail ballgowns but on that rare occasion when you're so inclined to break one out, these are the ones that I'd like the chance to hang in my closet for a bougie night... when I have an assistant to help me with my train of course (ahem, hubby).
In no particular order...
Bee Shaffer of The Devil Wears Prada fame (kidding...she's VOGUE's US editor Anna Wintour's daughter) in Valentino Couture. I love the red. The soft, romantic appeal of the ruffles and, of course, the off shoulder sex appeal. Plus, is that a cape? #want
Amanda Seyfried looked amazing in this yellow/gold draping gown by Prada. I love the bubbly sleeves and the Shakespearean empire waist. Stunning.
Blake Lively in Versace. Also 2M in jewels. (yawn ;).... Besides the obvious, I love the way the skirt of this dress is actually hugging her body and totally fitted so she has a beautiful curvaceous hourglass shape in addition to that hugely regal train. It's the best of both worlds. After 600+ hours of labor, I definitely think Versace nailed this one...
Kate Bosworth slays in Oscar de la Renta. Because tulle. And because Blue Crush. Love her.
And finally...I'm surprisingly obsessed with this look... #mustcopy
Be on the lookout for The 9's adding some jumpsuit action to the top picks sometime soon because I'm AFTER this look. Love the ruching, love the off-shoulder, love the corset, love the billowy flare pants. Bravo, Kendall!
